Pikes Peak Derby Dames

PPDD in the Community

The Pikes Peak Derby Dames are active in the community, donating time, money, and even bout tickets to charities and nonprofit organizations in the Pikes Peak region. Here are some of the ways that PPDD gives back to the community.

Chick-fil-A Skate-a-Thon

Destiney Balze and Slaugther than Hell are skating for the second year in a row in Chick-fil-A's First 100 Skate-a-thon! They'll be skating all night around Chick-fil-A on 11-11-11 for FREE chicken for a year and to raise money for an awesome cause: FREE Health care for women. Please donate! If they're the top fundraisers they'll get FREE Meals for a year! Please Click Here and designate your donation for Destiny Blaze or Slaughter than Hell! See the Chick-fil-A First 100 Skate-a-thon Facebook page.

Skate-a-Thon 2011

We will hold our annual Skate- A-Thon fundraiser on August 1, 2011. We are pleased to announce that 25% of all funds raised will be donated to PEAK Parent Center.

PEAK Parent Center provides training, information and technical assistance to equip families of children with disabilities, from birth through age twenty-six, with strategies to advocate successfully for their children. Services provided by PEAK Parent Center allow children and adults with disabilities to live rich, active lives and participate as full members of their schools and communities. For more information about PEAK Parent Center, visit http://www.peakparent.org.

This summer, Pikes Peak Derby Dames members will collect donations and per-lap pledges, and then on August 1, each skater will skate as many laps as possible in 70 minutes to raise funds for PEAK Parent Center and PPDD.

Pikes Peak Derby Dames is also a nonprofit organization, and uses money raised at fundraisers such as the skate-a-thon to pay for things such as practice space, traveling to tournaments, and holding public bouts.

This will be PPDD's sixth skate-a-thon, which is the nonprofit's biggest fundraiser every year. The annual skate-a-thon has raised thousands of dollars for local charities, including Big Brothers Big Sisters Pikes Peak, National Mill Dog Rescue, Urban Peak, and others.

Pikes Peak Derby Dames held our 2nd Annual St. Baldrick’s event at our March 19th bout. PPDD skater Mama Beast and referee Randall Ferrari, as well as some of our favorite fans, participated, and raised over $7,000 for childhood cancer research.

The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. The Foundation coordinates worldwide head-shaving events where volunteers get bald to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer and raise money to support life-saving childhood cancer research.

2010 Skate-a-Thon

PPDD held our 5th annual “Skate for a Cause” Skate-A-Thon this October. This year we proudly donated 25% of our earnings to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pikes Peak.

Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. They have been the leader in one-to-one youth service for more than a century, developing positive relationships that have a direct and lasting impact on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors children, ages 6 through 18, in communities across the country.

Amount Raised:

$4,317.89 with $1079.47 going to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

Operation School Bell

On Saturday, September 25, 2010, Pikes Peak Derby Dames volunteered at Operation School Bell, which is a program that provides new school clothes for area children in need. Students receive new shirts, jeans, socks, underwear, gloves, a hat, and a coat, as well as school supplies and hygiene kits. Nine Derby Dames proudly helped their community by spending several hours assembling hygiene kits and school supply bags that students will receive with their new clothes. In addition, Pikes Peak Derby Dames and their fans recently donated $200 to Operation School Bell.

Gift Cards for Homeless and Runaway Youth

We collected gift cards for Urban Peak, an organization that works with homeless and runaway youth between the ages of 15 to 21 in Colorado Springs. They provide a safe and caring place so that youths can begin to work on getting off the streets. The gift cards were distributed at Christmas time.
